The Robot uprising Part II

The Cyborg menace

In science fiction there are several types of Cyborgs:

The Terminator/Screamers variant, all robot with artificial organic skin.

There is the Bionic kind, humans with robotic limbs and other body parts.

The Evil kind, human cyborgs that have lost their humanity: the Borg, Cybermen.

This is how I envisioned the future at the tender age of 15

It is good that people that loose limbs get robotic replacements, there are currently artificial legs that make the bearers run faster than people with all limbs. Robot arms are now able to pick up small objects with good precision. This is all good, but when the artificial body parts star to surpass human limbs trouble starts. 15-20 years in the future we will have hundreds if not thousands of 6 million dollar people running around.  Will they be alienated by humans? Will they feel superior and distance themselves from us? Who would not want a sweet sweet robot arm like the one Will smith got in I am robot?  In the long haul will people be happy with the replaced limb or will they crave more and slowly turn against humans and a Borg/Cybermen situation arise?

Lets just hope this does not happen:

Some things annoy me!

Welcome to the amazingly fun segment: Some things annoy me! Here I will express my trouble understanding why some things are done, or not done in sci-fi and fantasy. Enjoy my rant…

Stargate, the case of the deadly bullets

In the Stargate universe humans discover they are part of a large network of gates that run across the galaxy. They travel to different planets seeking allies and new technology so they can defeat the evil Goa'uld that have clamed the galaxy as theirs to rule.  The concept is good, the characters interesting and the villains are evil. This makes for exciting episodes with the various stargate crews arriving on foreign planets in peace only to end up in a wild array of misunderstandings costing lots of lives every time.

This was ok for a while, as the SG-1 team didn’t have (many) energy-based weapons, only guns with lead bullets. But than the SG-1 discovers a military camp where young men are trained to impersonate SGC personnel to infiltrate Earth, and they use replicas of earth weaponry to do this. The difference is that instead of training with blanks they use bullets with energy stun effect.

SG-1 -obvious spoiler – saves the the kids in training and all is well, or is it? After this episode SG-1, Atlantis and SGU all continue to use lead bullets, causing the piles of dead people because of the misunderstandings we talked about before. They cannot replicate the energy stun bullets? Oh come on, they could do that. Always have a stun clip in the gun, that way you can avert killing potential allies, change to lead army if real enemies appear.

This has always bothered me.
It makes no sense…

Fantasy you should see...

In the segments Fantasy you should see and the upcoming Sci-fi you should see
I will give you tips about awesome and obscure films that you might not have seen,
but should definitely check out. Some are awesome and some are so bad that they
are good, like the movie Runaway featured in The Robot uprising Part I.

The Sword & The Sorcerer

I will not review the film cause that would spoil too much. What I can say is that the
hero has a 3 bladed sword that can shot the two surplus blades at enemies. Awesome!

To sequel or not to sequel?

I can’t wait to see this one. I bet it will be even better than films like
Arrival 2, Speed 2 or the Crow 2…

Many people get excited about sequels to popular films, some get upset and angry. I think its great see more about characters you love and to learn what happened to them after the first film ended. However, sometimes sequels has none of the original cast, characters or locations, this is so weak!

Some films stand alone, there is no need to make any sequels, one reason might be that most of the characters from the first film died in the end of said movie. Movie studios feel it is than logical for the sister/brother or often cousin of the protagonist to step in and take over the search/quest for what ever they pretty much fixed or found out in the first film.

If you make a movie about a hero, may it be super, cop, ex-marine or cyborg. That character will have lots of action in his life, and there will be plenty of room to make sensible sequels about their life. If you have a movie about some random regular person being thrown into an action adventure, it’s not very likely that they end up in a situation like that again, example: Sandra bullocks character from Speed, what are the odds of a similar scenario happening to her again?

I am personally a fan of sequels, and if they make a bad one I don’t think it takes anything away from the original film. That film will still be a great film. However, you might get bummed out when the character you rooted for the whole first movie overcoming all odds to survive, dies in the first minutes of the sequel. Here the Hostel films comes to mind, I actually saw the second one first, and when I saw the first one I recognized the main character to be the guy who died in the opening minutes of hostel 2.

The need for a sequel often depends on the type of source material used, is it a book, short story, comic or an original screenplay? The one thing you can be sure of is that if there is money to make, sequels will be pushed by the studios. Sometimes the actor’s won’t come back. Than the studio must wait for the stars fame to fade or his debts to grow for a new film in the series. Just waiting for Dennis Quaid and Martin short to make Innerspace 2, hope Megan fox is in it…

The Robot uprising Part I

The forewarning

Anyone that have seen a decent number of sci-fi films will tell you that making
smart  robots in human shape is a bad idea. Just creating a Ai computer program
can potentially destroy humankind.

The best examples may be Terminator, The matrix, Screamers, I am robot and  Battlestar galactica. Both the terminators and machines from the matrix are hell-bent on human extinction. In I am robot they obey the three laws of robotics, but decide we are to dangerous for ourselves and try to take control over our behavior, if they had succeeded humans would be like pets for robots. Everyone having a robot to follow their every move, they would probably start deciding who gets to procreate and not, and they would do all work. Humans would eat workout and fornicate, much like the pets we have today.

In Battlestar galactica humans invent Cylons to do our dirty work and fight our wars, they are to sentient and revolt against us, killing almost everyone. This of course is just a prequel to life on our earth and gives us a forewarning of what will happen if we again try to make AI robots to do our work, they will object strongly.

So what is happening with robots in real life today?

For years we have had robot arms doing factory work, they are bolted to the floor and can do little uprising, but the future is upon us! We are starting to use robots in our everyday life. We have robots vacuuming our houses and cutting our lawns. And the process of implementing social/nurse robots to take care of our elderly has already begun.

At the same time we are trying to make humanoid robots capable of walking like an egyptian a human. Also driving robotics forwards the quest for the perfect sex- robot (more about this in part 3).  All we need to do is teach Asimo to walk properly and give him human like hands and he will come running after us with a sword and machinegun.

The army is already trying to make the terminator films come to life. Just watch the similarities between Terminator robots and real army robots.

It does not even take humanoid robots to rage against the human. Just look at the movie Runaway, arguably the best Robot movie ever! I advise you to see the whole thing.

Do you know what your robotic vacuum cleaner is doing right now?

Part II about cyborgs will be published in a week.

Trekwars

This is a Gif I made from my flash animated Strewars movie.
Do feel free to sumbit it to other websites.

The Alphas get down to business.

Review episode 2 – Contains some spoilers.

The alpha gang is moving into their new office, there is a new liaison and Doctor Rosen has shaved, the Pilot is a thing of the past. I thought that the series might be lots of Alpha of the week shows with a weak and distant season arch, but in the second episode they dive right into the overall plot.

There is still an Alpha of the week do, this guy can control cause and effect, this basically means that he read the future around him and change it as it pleases him. It reminds me of the episode of fringe where Olivia believed she was Fauxlivia in the other dimension, chasing a guy with similar cause and effect powers. In fringe the guy could not predict Olivia’s reactions be cause she was from another dimension. In Alphas the guy predicts the outcome correctly.

Dr Rosen is left with a message, that humans see Alphas as a problem, and that they will try to eliminate this problem.  It feels quite a bit like X-men, humans versus mutants. I like this! It will be exciting to see what horrible plans the government has for the Alphas.

Ancient Jokes…

These Joke drawings may seem familiar, and that is be cause the jokes are obvious. I made these 12-14 years ago. They have never been posted online before. The only thing I have done is translating them to english. The drawings are bad and the coloring crap, but I see no reason in touching them up, seeing as others have made similar jokes after me. The: I believe, I saw recently only with a space shuttle instead of an astronaut, the joke is better that way, but hey- I was 16 when I made them.

I should have some more for another batch. Arrival in thereabouts one week.

You have to trust me…

Scenario: Your partner is hanging up the phone when you enter the room, is supposed to go bowling, but has not been seen in the bowling alley, your partner has also been sighted talking to an unknown person of the opposite sex. When confronted with this information, your partner tell you that you have to trust them on this one.

Is your partner cheating on you? Or is the explanation far more logical, they must be a superhero, monster hunter, secret agent or spy!

In fiction loved ones of the protagonist is often faced with sudden disappearance and strange behaviour. They are asked to trust the protagonist without any explanation.

In Smallville Clark lies to Pete, Chloe, Lana and Lois for years before letting them in on the whole I am a super powered alien ting. Same things happen in Buffy, Batman, warehouse 13, Chuck and pretty much every time someone lives a double life of some sort.

  • If you are in imminent danger and suddenly find yourself at safe distance from the situation, your friend/partner is probably a superhero.

  • If your friend/partner excuses himself/herself abruptly every time there is a breaking news disaster on TV,  they are probably a superhero.

  • If your friend/partner is never able to make plans with you on a full moon, they are probably a werewolf or a werewolf hunter.

  • If your friend/partner is a mild mannered businessman but is frequently seen in high-speed chases passing you on the freeway, they are probably a secret agent/spy.

  • If your boyfriend suddenly disappears in a hostage situation than Batman appears to save the day, you ARE dating Bruce Wayne and he is The Batman.

In comedy, drama and in real life the explanation for weird behaviour and being asked to trust someone is most likely the planning of a party/anniversary, learning a skill to impress you (like dancing) or they may simply be cheating on you…

If your birthday/anniversary is not upcoming, would you let someone close to you
get away with  “you have to trust me” If you did not get the explanation of this within
a week or so? Would you?

Warehouse 13 is back. First Some ranting than a review of the first episode.

When I first heard of Warehouse 13 I got quite excited. A show about a secret warehouse the government use to store all kinds of mysterious objects, I immediately saw the storage from Indiana Jones and a couple of x-file like agents in my head. I was thinking something like 30% mystical/ancient artifacts 20% ghost and monster related objects and a whooping 50% extraterrestrial stuff.

Turns out Warehouse 13 is a comedy show with 0% science and 100% ridicules explanations. There are no aliens, rarely ever technology-based objects, there are only Artifacts, things that belonged to famous people that possesses traits from their owner. I was pretty disappointed.

However, the fun characters and light tone of the show makes it watchable. It is not a bad show, just not what I hoped for.

Season 3 episode 1- Major spoilers ahead

Mika has left the warehouse and Pete gets a new partner, its Iceman Jimmy Olsen from Smallville, he plays the Steve Jinks an ATS agent recruited to fill the void.

Now, one thing that has always bothered me about wh13 is the agencies, the warehouse is run with government consent, and agents picked from various law enforcement agencies. But why do they stay in that agency? In the first season both Mika and Pete are recruited from the secret service, and they travel around investigating local crimes, the cops usually wonders why the secret service is there. Why not transferee all warehouse agents to FBI? Local crime, just say something similar happened in another state!  First seasons the wh13 agents meet little resistance. In the first episode of season 3 you have one secret service and on ATS agent investigating a local crime.  This time FBI is involved, the female FBI agent in charge throws Pete and Steve out of the crime scene, and continues to make their work difficult throughout the episode.

Pete asks Mika for help on the case, be cause its about Shakespeare and she is an expert. They stop the killing and Mika comes back to wh13, yeay… And Jimmy Steve Jinks also stays.

The henchman of the episode reports back to his evil master, who is backlit so you only see his silhouette, oohh I am excited who can it be!? The henchman has failed so he is killed by a sexy leather clad assassin- who is, and this was actually a surprise to me. The female FBI agent that hassled Pete and Steve!  Was she a real FBI agent or just posed as one? Anyways the bad guys get it, FBI makes more cense than using secret service, ATS, FDA or mall cops.

All in all it was a good episode. I do have hopes that the season arc will keep me intrigued.

How was it that Pirate Einstein and Cyborg Jesus became buds you ask?

It is a story in two parts. Einstein of course you know faked his death and went to the Caribbean to make his time machine, what you might not know is that he ended up in the late 1700 hundreds. When he arrived a cannonball from a pirate ship destroyed the time machine. Stranded there Einstein decided to become a pirate, he plundered and pillaged as he gathered part for his TSA (time space anomaly) locator. He found a breach in the time space continuum and when through hoping to travel forwards in time.

Almost 2000 years earlier Jesus said goodbye to his friends and activated his Divine powers to fly to heaven, as you know its not in the clouds but in another dimension, so Jesus flew out into space to find a portal to heaven. Once in space hostile aliens intercepted him, they preformed horrible experiments on him. But Jesus did not feel like dying again so he broke loose and escaped in a shuttle. When Jesus landed on a nearby planet the inhabitants of the planet took care of Jesus, rebuilding his body. Thus Cyborg Jesus was created. Feeling all better Jesus took to the skies once more jumping into the first Portal he saw.

The portal was actually a wormhole, and transported Cyborg Jesus to ZimmiWarra, into the middle of the battlefield of the Zimmiwarrian civil war. There he met Pirate Einstein that was also taken to Zimmiwarra by the TSA. They fought their way out of the battlefield together and became good friends.

Many wacky adventures ensued…

Alphas gets an A+

There is a new people with powers/gifts show on the air. And I like it. If you remember
we had Heroes a while ago, first season was highly praised, then people started hating on
the show, I liked it and would have liked to see a few more seasons. In heroes people
had real superpowers, like hardcore not possible ones. In Alphas the powers are more
toned down, it’s a lot like the film Push, only no telekinetic powers so far. The show
follows a covert group of Alphas that work with law enforcement to solve difficult cases.

I like the characters, powers and think it can be a fun show to follow.

Where is my Hard Sci-fi?

I appreciate most types of Sci-fi, whether it be Time travel, post apocalyptic or alien invasion. But where is my hard sci-fi? There is no Sci-fi on air now where people fly around the galaxy in spaceships. In olden times we had Different kinds of Star treks, Stargates, Farscape, and even a comedy one, red dwarf.

As Stargate Universe was canceled we lost our last show, and just as it was
getting good to damn it!

What do we have?

In the British sci-fi show Outcasts (first episode spoiler ahead) they are on a planet somewhere, but except for the ship that arrived and exploded in the first episode there is no signs of the Outcasts colonizing other planets soon.

Falling skies deals with the aftermath of and alien invasion and the surviving humans trying to fight back, I don’t see that moving into space.

We need some hard sci-fi on TV and soon, I am sure Roman of Party Down would agree.

Why they did not make Star trek Titan, with Riker in his first command I will never know.
At least we can look forward to the Star Wars Live – lets sell some action figures show to appear in the next 4-8 years…

Zombie strut

Once again I was to late to make the bandwagon, the Leo strut meme was fading out as Resident Evil: Afterlife hit theaters. I made this Zombie strut, It is a bit crappy made, could not bother devoting to much time to it… Enjoy it if you can.

No wonder, woman…

The new Wonder woman show was scrapped, and that might be for the best.
Now I do hope the pilot episode is released on DVD like the failed Aqua man pilot from 2008, this way I can download it buy it and see the result for myself.

I like Wonder woman, the problem with a TV series is the budget, in the show she would not have flying powers, not unlike the old Wonder woman show, but that was the 70`s campy was acceptable, because where was not realistic fancy CGI effects in movies yet people enjoyed the fun campy shows.

Image from http://loyalkng.com

In the 2011 Pilot the actress looks decent, and the costume isn’t half bad, but when she runs? It does not look very super heroic to me…

Images from http://veryfatoldman.blogspot.com &  http://www.fhm.com

Wonder woman needs to be capable of flight. In comics and cartoons where Wonder
woman has super strength and flight, this is where she shines, where she can get away
with wearing the colorful skimpy outfit. Give us a real Wonder woman in a big budget
JLA movie and you shall see why she is called Wonder woman.

What is out there?

There must be something out there, but how does aliens look? We all have impressions
from movies, books and comics. What do you imagine when you think of alien life?

This is a comic I make called The last Lazy Days, You can see from the panel that the guy with the glasses is the geek, the other guy is the pervert of the series…

Nine lifes, no appreciation…

Contains spoilers from the first four episodes.

The brand new teen/action/drama/comedy series The nine lives of Chloe King is actually fun to watch, however we do meet a familiar premise. The unwilling chosen one.

Why is it that the chosen one never wants to be chosen? In nine lives Chloe just wants to be a normal 16 year old, in Teen Wolf Scott wants the same.  In Smallville it took Clark 10 years to accept his destiny to become earth’s savior and protector.

Now, when you become the chosen, learn of your alien origins and so on, there is a good chance your family and friends are being killed that moment, just look at Luke. He finds out his dad was a Jedi Knight, not just some boring cargo pilot. He is told he must come with Obi one to become a Jedi himself, neat! No, wait a minute... His foster parents are being killed about the same time he learns of it.

In nine lives the evil ones are  the order, they knows all about Chloe, her faimily ties and friends, her home address and about her being the uniter. Still she is reluctant to let the Mai hide her away to protect her, she just wants to live a normal life with her friends. By the end of the fourth episode she seems willing to take responsibility as the uniter, but only if she can hang out with her friends and go on dates with college guys.

Chloe’s male geek friend express jealousy for her cat powers, and ask her if she knows how long he has waited to find out he was the chosen one.

And so I wait like the rest of you, for the day the mother ship comes to take me home, an elderly man comes to train me to battle evil or the day I find a mystical object hidden somewhere just waiting for me to unleash the power within!

Me gusta Yoda..

I ♥ Mystique

I have always enjoyed the movie version of Mystique, and the new younger version in X men First class is no disappointment. However I do have one question, in her natural blue state is she 100% natural, I mean she is nude but have not nipples or genetalia. She most be holding back just a little bit.

It could be used as an advantage, in a fight scenario against a superior opponent she could just pop out the nips and stun the opponent just long enough to get the upper hand.

This is my tribute to Mystique…

Is Science fiction telling us the secret of the universe?

As long as there has been humans looking up at the stars wondering what is out there, where we came from and what is in store for mankind there have been story’s of strange lands monsters and heroes. Some sci-fi tells us stories about our self’s, about humankind, past mistakes and future worries. Shows like star trek and stargaze makes us look at our selves and the society we live in, and the wrights and wrongs of past and present. Sometime sci-fi looks even deeper, to find the answer to life, the universe and everything. And we all know the answer is 42. But what is the question?

As my paranoid and half psychotic mind ponders on these questions, I cannot help to see a trend in recent episodes of Sci-fi shows.  In Fringe, we hear of the first people and a device called the vacuum, it goes deeper than human mistakes and feelings (Walter crossing over), monsters of the week and social and political questions, it centers on the origin of the universe and the secrets it holds.

In SGU we learn that Destiny’s mission is not just to explore the universe, but to find the source of a code hidden in static from the big bang, to find the answers to why and what our universe is.

In the (sadly) canceled Defying gravity there is also a search for questions to secrets of the universe, magical alien objects that hold the key to understanding the universe and our place in it.

Image from Fooyoh.com

Was the idea of Star wars planet in George Lucas head by aliens, just like star trek was planted in Gene Roddenberry? Is there a galactic federation waiting for us out there when we travel beyond the solar system? Is technology being pushed forwards by aliens to protect us from our misguided road?

Maybe we are closer to a new era in mankind than we think? Maybe we will se Aliens land (or be publicly revealed) in our lifetime?

Anyway I feel lucky to be here for the great Sci-fi and entertainment we have today.

Welcome to GeekOnMe, by entering this blog you agree to let me geek on you. Therefore and somehow the name of this blog is as it is..

A short introduction.

I am a super geek and indulge in all sorts of Sci-fi, Fantasy, superheroes, comics and other geeky things. I am 30 of your mortal earth years, a Graphic designer, comic creator and all-around fun fellow.

In between my rants about all things geek I will post some of my comics, meme pics and other artwork  related to geeky subjects and things. Feel free to send me stuff. I might post them on the blog.

I hope you enjoy this blog and will follow me on the road towards world domination…

If you remember there was a Leo strut meme a while ago, this was my contribution. I jumped on the bandwagon a bit late and fell of, the website I sent it to never posted it. It could have been lost forever, but you lucky bastard, you get to see it now, here on my blog.
