Nine lifes, no appreciation…

Contains spoilers from the first four episodes.

The brand new teen/action/drama/comedy series The nine lives of Chloe King is actually fun to watch, however we do meet a familiar premise. The unwilling chosen one.

Why is it that the chosen one never wants to be chosen? In nine lives Chloe just wants to be a normal 16 year old, in Teen Wolf Scott wants the same.  In Smallville it took Clark 10 years to accept his destiny to become earth’s savior and protector.

Now, when you become the chosen, learn of your alien origins and so on, there is a good chance your family and friends are being killed that moment, just look at Luke. He finds out his dad was a Jedi Knight, not just some boring cargo pilot. He is told he must come with Obi one to become a Jedi himself, neat! No, wait a minute... His foster parents are being killed about the same time he learns of it.

In nine lives the evil ones are  the order, they knows all about Chloe, her faimily ties and friends, her home address and about her being the uniter. Still she is reluctant to let the Mai hide her away to protect her, she just wants to live a normal life with her friends. By the end of the fourth episode she seems willing to take responsibility as the uniter, but only if she can hang out with her friends and go on dates with college guys.

Chloe’s male geek friend express jealousy for her cat powers, and ask her if she knows how long he has waited to find out he was the chosen one.

And so I wait like the rest of you, for the day the mother ship comes to take me home, an elderly man comes to train me to battle evil or the day I find a mystical object hidden somewhere just waiting for me to unleash the power within!
